Community Highlight: The Hmong in Waterloo Region

Hmong Exhibit Hmong Exhibit Image

In the long term exhibit gallery What Makes Us Who We Are? there are a number of exhibit cases and interpretive panels that will change on a regular basis.

One such area that changes annually will focus on different communities within Waterloo Region. The community focused on in this exhibit could be a cultural group, a municipality or even a neighbourhood.

The current focus of the Community Highlight exhibit area through 2012 is The Hmong:  Refugees from Southeast Asia.

The Hmong are an Asian ethnic group that have historically lived in the mountainous regions of Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, and China. Hmong refugees first began immigrating to Canada in 1979.
